Tonight's episode of New Girl wasn't the best, but it is a step in the right direction for a show that has lost its voice over the past season. The story is very basic. Jess is having a dance at school to distract herself from the breakup, and in the process needs the group to chaperone. Jess also has to deal with the dance getting sabotaged. What worked for this episode is that they didn't focus on Jess needing to distract herself from the break-up. I know I said that is why she was focusing on it, but it was more of just an inference. The fact that she needed the boys and Cece to help chaperone was what really made this episode click. It was a really funny. I enjoyed the boys comforting Jess, the problems with the kids, and Coach's pep talks. Most everything else fell flat. The sabotage story was very weak. It was just a little girl who didn't want to be there, but was forced to go. And that freestyle rap was horrid. Seriously, never do that again. Still it a solid step in the right direction for this episode, especially with Nick and Jess dancing together at the end. It showed that the show is finally getting back to what it once was.

- The chaperones
