Daredevil is the first of Marvel's Netflix experiment. Not much is known and little has been seen. We do now have a premiere date. April 10 is when you will be able to watch the entire series. I can't wait to see what happens with this series. I don't know much about Daredevil, but I am excited to see what Marvel does with less handcuffing them. What do you think?

Marvel has followed up the casting of Jessica Jones, with news of who will be playing Luke Cage. Mike Colter (American Horror Story, The Good Wife) has won the role of Luke Cage in Marvel's Luke Cage Netflix series. Again, I am not very familiar with Cage or Colter, but the show should be interesting. The character will appear in Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones first and then move onto his own series. Marvel has cast fan-favorite actress Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. The series will be titled Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones. The official synopsis of the show says "After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City." This will certainly be interesting. I am not very familiar with Ritter's work or Jessica Jones, but I will give this show a chance just because it is Marvel. What do you think? New York Comic Con was this weekend and we got our first big news out from the new Netflix/Marvel show, Daredevil. We heard a lot and got our first look at the costume. It looks alright for a starter outfit, but I hope they go in the more traditional route soon. There was also confirmation that Rosario Dawson will play Night Nurse. It is possible that she will be a connecting force between the Netflix shows and the movie universe, as she has gotten romantically involved with Luke Cage (another Marvel character getting a Netflix show) and has been an ally to Doctor Strange. Below there is a press release describing all the new characters, a video of the cast talking about the show, a description of the footage shown, and a possible release date for the show. This release date doesn't seem too likely considering this is also the day The Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters, but it will probably come out sometime close to this date. Marvel & Netflix are proud to announce that acclaimed talents Ayelet Zurer, Bob Gunto, Toby Moore & Vondie Curtis Hall have joined "Marvel’s Daredevil," an all-new thirteen-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Known for blockbuster films such as “Man of Steel” and “Angels & Demons,” Ayelet Zurer will play Vanessa Marianna, an art dealer whose chance meeting with Wilson Fisk dramatically changes their lives. An Emmy-award nominated actor known for his powerful work in “ER” and “Chicago Hope,” Vondie Curtis Hall will play Ben Urich, an investigative journalist at the New York Bulletin who’ll soon find himself drawn into a war for the soul of Hell’s Kitchen. Garnering acclaim for nuanced work in projects such as “The Pacific” and “John Wick,” Toby Leonard Moore will play Wesley, right-hand man and confidante to Wilson Fisk. A veteran of blockbuster films “Shawshank Redemption” and “Argo,” Bob Gunton will play Leland Owlsley, an enigmatic and key figure in Wilson Fisk’s crusade to remake Hells Kitchen. These four stars joins Charlie Cox (“Matt Murdock”), Deborah Ann Woll (“Karen Page”), Elden Henson (“Foggy Nelson”), Ayelet Zurer (“Vanessa Marianna”), with Rosario Dawson (“Claire Temple”) and Vincent D’Onofrio (“Wilson Fisk”) in the critically-lauded cast of "Marvel’s Daredevil." “These are four of the most important roles in "Marvel’s Daredevil" and we’ve assembled actors worthy of each iconic role,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Ayelet, Bob, Vondie and Toby each brign a unique charisma and power to the roles, making it immediately clear why each of their characters is so vital to the war for Hell’s Kitchen.” The first clip we saw was one of action. The scene takes place inside Karen Page's (True Blood's Deborah Ann Woll) apartment. It is dark and green. The whole series is about two green tone down from a David Fincher movie, but it's still fairly green. And dark. It's almost hard to see all the action (which could be just the nature of screening dark footage in a giant hall) but it's dark. Karen gets home and sees the window open, she's nervous, there's a spot of blood on the floor (or black good, again so dark). Even more nervous Karen climbs her furniture, rooting out what appears to be a USB port squirreled away in an air vent. She sighs, but she's not alone. I dark haired man appears from the shadows and just chucks her against the wall. This causes her to scream and drop the USB stick or port or whatever. The intruder grab it, and then takes out a knife (cue the knife noise). But before he can slice up Karen there's another intruder. No it's Daredevil! But it's early Daredevil, pre-suit Daredevil. The fight, it's intense, it's quick, it's dirty but mostly it's very dark. At some point Daredevil falls out the window, clangs on some scaffolding and lands facedown in the street. The knife CLANGS to his side, the rain thunders on the pavement. All the sounds are heightened. And then BOOM you're back in time. Daredevil is having a flashback. Everything has a yellow hue. Little Matty Murdock is asleep at a kitchen table and his Dad wakes him. He tells him to study so he won't end up "like him." He holds a bag of frozen vegetables to his face. He's been beaten, bad. His boy feels his bruises. And his father says, "Come on Matty get to work." Those words spring modern day Daredevil to life. He pushes himself up black rain falls off his head, but red back light blood pours from his mouth. Then Daredevil beats the ever loving shit out of the intruder. It's excellent. The second scene showcased Rosario Dawson and Charlie Cox's banter. Murdock wakes up in Claire's apartment on her couch. It's quick and fast but it's good. Fairly believable for the situation that is being showcased. When Murdock freaks out (being blind and on a stranger's couch) she fires right back at him. Somehow Claire fished Murdock out of the trash and now wants to know, "how a blind man in a mask ends up beaten half to death in my dumpster?" Murdock has other concerns, "you've seen my face." He states and refuses to tell her his name. Claire is nonplussed, "I'm not looking for some guy to die on my couch on the night off." They do the whole "the less you know about me the better" exchange and Claire settles on calling him Mike because, "a guy I used to date turns out he was very good at keeping secrets too. It's quick, it's good, it's still in that green filter but that pace is great. A lighter clip this short moment showed the softer side. Murdock in his day role as lawyer for Nelson and Murdock. And Cox goes full dorky Murdock in it. Sure he's charming but he's not too charming. Together Murdock, Nelson meet (and are fed) but Karen Page. It's her thank you for getting her out of jail. She's feeding them and basically asking how she can help. They all decide by joining the tiny firm. It's cute. Very cute. Netflix is bringing Daredevil to our TV screens sometime next year. Not much is known, but that will likely change this weekend at New York Comic-Con. The show is scheduled to have a panel there this Saturday. The panel will apparently feature the first concept art from the show, which should mean our first look at the costume! Finally! We probably won't see much more than that, but I heard Marvel has something big planned. Could they show us footage? Or something else entirely? Come back for more this weekend. Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce an exclusive "Marvel's Daredevil" signing event at New York Comic Con on Saturday, October 11 from 3:45-4:45 p.m. ET at the Marvel Booth (#1354) For the first time, Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), and Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) will meet with fans. All fans who participate in this signing will also receive an exclusive "Marvel's Daredevil" production concept art poster, drawn by Marvel Chief Creative Officer and legendary artist Joe Quesada. Please note: this is a ticketed event. Interested fans should arrive at the Marvel Booth when the doors open at 10:00 a.m. ET on the day of the signing to participate in a random drawing for the opportunity to get one (1) item signed by the cast. "Marvel's Daredevil" follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City. Marvel's first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight ("Spartacus," "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer," "Angel") and Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods," "Lost," "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," in addition to writing the first two episodes of "Marvel's Daredevil"), along with Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb ("Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Smallville," "Heroes"). "Marvel's Daredevil" is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix Marvel has kept its 'Daredevil' project tightly under wraps. It is so secretive, in fact, that we haven't even gotten a title card for the show. That should change soon, though. New York Comic-Con is about to happen in October, and Marvel will bring 'Daredevil' and the second season of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' to Javits Center. Right now only Charlie Cox is confirmed to appear, but the majority of the cast is also expected to make an appearance. Here is the details on the events. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Friday, October 10th- 4:15 PM-5:15 PM) Jeph Loeb returns with exciting news and the world premiere of all new episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before it debuts on ABC! Marvel's Daredevil
(Saturday, October 11th- 5:15 PM-6:15 PM) Join the cast of Marvel's Daredevil in their first-ever appearance with show-runner Steve DeKnight and moderator Jeph Loeb to answer questions and reveal secrets from the hotly-anticipated show debuting on Netflix in 2015. Apparently Netflix is really confident that 'Gotham' will be a good show. They have bought the streaming rights for the first season of the show before the show's premiere. Netflix is paying $1.75 million an episode for the right. It will most likely debut in September 2015 before a second season, assuming there is one.
"While we typically license our programming country by country, we have licensed this very special series to Netflix on a multi-territory basis," WBWTD president Jeffrey R. Schlesinger said in a statement today. "Netflix is a perfect home for Gotham following its initial broadcast in each respective country, giving Netflix subscribers the opportunity to catch-up prior to the new season, whether they’re already fans or discovering it for the first time." Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, adds: "Gotham is the most anticipated new series of the fall season and we are thrilled to offer it to our members around the world. The Batman origin story is sure to have massive global appeal so it is fitting that, along with Warner Television, we have created a new model for distributing a show that international and domestic audiences will love." What do you think of this? The upcoming Netflix 'Daredevil' series had just about no presence at Comic-Con, which was surprising. We did get a little information. In a panel celebrating 75 years of Marvel and 50 years of Daredevil, Joe Quesada let slip that the show will be available on Netflix in May next year. Pretty interesting considering that the next Avengers movie comes out the same month. Maybe they will have an easter-egg referring to the movie or maybe Daredevil makes a brief appearance in the movie. Daredevil will star Charlie Cox as the titular "anti"-hero, Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin, and Rosario Dawson as (most likely) Elektra.
After a disappointing start to the series, AoS finally found its voice. And it turned out to be a pretty good TV show. Now heading into it's second season, the show has a lot of questions to answer. But for now we have to wait until Wednesday September 23rd for those questions to be answered. The show is definitely heading down an interesting route and it will be fun to see it explored. Also interesting is the move to Wednesdays. You would think it would be to avoid 'The Flash', but it runs into 'Arrow' in Wednesday. At the end of the day, I will end up watching both. What do you think of the move to Wednesdays?
'Daredevil' is one of the most anticipated Marvel Netflix shows. And it seems they are stepping their game up a bit with casting. They have managed to snag Rosario Dawson for an as-of-yet unspecified role. What do you think of this news? Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that acclaimed actress Rosario Dawson has joined "Marvel’s Daredevil," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. |
