![]() We all know Donald Glover from his time on 'Community' as Troy or his rapping career as Childish Gambino, but it seems he has his sights on something completely different. He will grace our screens again, but this time as Miles Morales, one of the Spider-Mans. It is definitely cool, especially after he campaigned for the part, albeit jokingly, when they were casting for 'The Amazing Spider-Man'. What do you think of him playing Miles Morales?

'The Strain' has been rocky since it started. However, it is still one of the better shows on TV, and this episode took a step in the right direction. It kept the show interesting throughout the run time, all while providing interesting story and fantastic horror sequences. It found a good mix. The story went three different directions this week.. The started off with a fantastically chilling opening. We followed Joan's husband on his trip home from the airport and found out all about their marriage from this scene. When he got home everything went downhill. He met the vampires and there wasn't much of him afterwards. Eventually Joan's children made their way back home, only to encounter their infected mother. This in turn led to a meeting with an assault group that left us with a lot more questions then answers. As for Eph, he was off making a plan with Abraham on how to destroy all the vampires. This led to some very interesting sequences with Jim and Eichorst. Jim was particularly interesting this week, with him having to decide between helping his wife and destroying what he helped start. But perhaps the most interesting story this week was the history of Eichorst and Abraham. I was against the flashbacks a couple weeks ago, but they really created an interesting story this week. We got to see a little more of what made them enemies. I really liked how Eichorst somewhat toyed with Abraham in the concentration camp. The most intriguing thing from this story was that Abraham is the one who created the box that the Master traveled in. This was just a really good story and I also really liked how Eichorst seemingly took a liking to Abraham, whereas now in the future they clearly hate each other. The horror was potentially the best of the series this week. All of it was creepy and had a huge WTF factor. The episode started out with it. We see Joan just about completely transformed and attacking her husband in the cab. The backlit scene of her was super creepy. Perhaps the freakiest part was the meeting with the kids. They obviously had no clue what happened to her, and seeing her toy with her prey with amazingly chilling. Then the little splinter cell group that came in was just a good-ole fashioned what-the-heck scene. They have obviously dealt with vampires before. Seeing how they dealt with the vampires/infected was bad-a**. Eichorst was perfectly sinister in the present. He knew he was in charge and he used that to threaten Jim and show that Abraham may not have the upper hand this time around. I loved the interactions between him and Abraham in the past too. Eichorst knew he was also in charge then, but took the time to either toy with or befriend Abraham. It was definitely fascinating. All of the horror and scary aspects worked tonight. Overall, we got the most solid episode of 'The Strain' this week. All the elements combined and worked well together this week. I can't wait to learn more about this vampire killing group and see more of the Eichorst/Abraham relationship in the coming weeks. The strain is also spreading more and more. I am curious to see how this comes to a head at the end of the season. The show has solidly improved the past 2 weeks and I can only hope it continues that uptrend.
Above are 3 new pics of the Arrow and the Flash. All of them look pretty awesome. Again the only problem I have is the red background in the chest emblem. What do you think of the current looks?
SPOILERS FOLLOW 'The Strain' is finally starting to look like a great show. For weeks it has been mired in mediocrity. This week finally showed signs of what it could be. There was still some story issues, but other then that, we were in for a highly entertaining hour this week. The story gave everyone a shot to shine this week. The story was connected by the fact that it is an eclipse and that the strain is starting to spread. Just about every character got a chance to deal with it. Eph's family drama was actually interesting this week. He warned his ex to take Zach away from the city. The whole situation and aftermath was really fun to watch. His dealing with the FBI was also interesting to watch, especially when he decided to give them first hand experience with the vampires. Vasiliy's second encounter with the strain was awesome. We now know that he won't be weak when it comes to dealing with the infected. The rest of the story was mainly fluff. I assume the reason that Gus and Jim put the body in the water was to quickly spread the disease. And we got a quick look into the sadistic mind of Eichorst. Meanwhile, Matt stuck is nose in Goodweather family business and also got his first encounter with the strain. The only real problem I had was Vasiliy's meeting with his father. I didn't think it was that interesting, but I can respect them working to develop Vasiliy. This was definitely a story that was well tooled to give every character their due, and it did. The mixture between story and horror was amazing this week. Usually they nail one or the other, but this week both got their due. As I said above the story gave every character their due and was all the more better for connecting them to one interesting topic. The horror aspects were few, but well done. I loved how they used Abraham's heartbeat as a drumbeat when he was in the vampires' house. They also kept you on your toes with the sheer amount of vampires in the house. The strongest point was when Vasiliy encountered what the strain can really do to someone, now that he saw what it did to his coworkers. He dealt with them using what he learnt about sunlight last week. Just watching this vampire essentially implode on itself was amazing considering a TV show budget. It was really cool and really well done. It seems like we will be getting more of the horror aspects now that it looks like the strain is spreading. Overall, this was the best episode since the first week. The story kept moving and stayed interesting. All the characters got a spot to shine. And it finally progressed the story to point where it looks like we will see the strain. It looks like we are done tiptoeing around the issue and jumping straight into it in the coming weeks. Hopefully they keep on this track and improve on it to make 'The Strain' a masterpiece.
Barring anything drastic happening, it looks like the FX series 'The Strain' will get a second season. While there is no official confirmation yet, Global News is reporting that FX will announce the news soon and that production will begin in November. Hopefully the show can get out of the rut it is in before the start of season 2. Right now they are making no real progress towards a goal, but it seems like the action will pick up soon. Stay tuned for an official confirmation.
MINOR SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW 'The Strain' is starting to get stuck in a cycle. It starts with 55 minutes of exposition and 5 minutes of awesomeness. That is not a good plan for success. It is really disappointing, too, when the show has so much potential. On the flip side, it is very clear that the show is building towards something. When it gets there, it seems like it could be truly amazing. The show picked up where last week left off. Eph is now paired with Abraham. Nora is on her on. Gabriel is continuing his transformation. And Vasiliy Fet was in the episode for some reason. My problem with the episode this week was the lack of OOMPH. There was no punch in the story. In fact, they added even more family crap. Nora's mom has some disease. It got really old really fast when her mother kept saying she wanted to go home and Nora kept saying she was home. It just didn't matter to me. It was annoying and took up way too much time. The family elements are consistently the worst part of the show. That trend continued this week. As far as other stories went, there wasn't much there either. Vasiliy discovered where all the other vampires were hiding. And then he ran away from them. Not much interesting there. The WWII flashbacks did nothing for me. I have wanted to know more about Abraham's history. And it is good to know that we will get a look into it. But this week just was boring. It was more or less his first encounter with "The Strain", and it just seemed thrown in. This story will hopefully build into something much more interesting, though. Gabriel's scenes were brief. You seem him kill the urologist and then kill the cleaner. It seemed like an unnecessary add-on to his story. We know he is getting worse, but we don't need to seem him kill someone every week. There were some good aspects to this story. Joan's slow transformation was fantastic. Although in this instance, I guess you can't say slow. In the time frame of only a few hours you see her go from not really wanting to attack her kids to her seriously considering it. I liked how the housekeeper actually had her head on straight and thought maybe I should take care of the kids. Then as she is leaving, you see Joan actually look at the kids like a meal, but a bit conflicted about what to do. Eph also had a fairly interesting journey this week. He found out a little more about "The Strain", and also had his first encounter with some information on what he was dealing with. He showed that he can do the tough things that are needed. It was a bit frustrating to see the heads of the CDC have their own heads firmly planted up their rear-ends. It seems like that may change in the coming weeks with Eph's video and the attack at the care house. Still it suffered a bit from some over-acting. Overall, the show still manages to show its potential. I feel like I am watching 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.', though. It is a show that has tons of potential, but hasn't unlocked that potential, yet. We need a consistently great episode of this show to really get us fully on-board with this show. It seems like we are getting closer and closer to that great episode, and maybe that episode can be next week's.
No one really knows what to expect from the 'Agent Carter' show. Most of us have seen the One-Shot and liked it, but this show is supposedly set before that. It is definitely a wild card. It is a show that has tons of potential, though.
The show will obviously focus on Agent Peggy Carter. She will be played by the lovely Hayley Atwell. We all saw Peggy in both Captain America movies, and we know that she doesn't take any non-sense. She was a strong female leader and that is why we all fell in love with her. As long as Atwell has enthusiasm for this character, the show will be good. They also really need to bring Dominic Cooper on board. He could be a huge selling point for this show. His Howard Stark was essentially a Tony Stark type character. I would like to see his character differentiate himself from Tony, though. Howard was one of the leaders in developing S.H.I.E.L.D. We need to see that at one point. The big bad needs to be really good too. They said it is a huge Marvel villain, so it will be interesting to see who they bring to the table. The story reportedly takes place before the One-Shot, so I am guessing this season will see Peggy fighting the theory that women don't belong in the workplace. I think we will see her slowly rise in this main-dominated world. That is an important aspect to the series. It will definitely be a huge overtone in the series. I think these season also needs to have rumblings of a top secret organization (SHIELD) being created. Something to use to build into the next season. This season needs to end with the One-Shot being referenced, whether it be Peggy answering the phone, or something else entirely. The show also needs to not worry itself about set-up. When you watch the show, you need to be able to figure it out yourself. It needs to not wrap itself up with exposition. That was part of the problem with Marvel's other foray into TV. This show needs to come out with a bang and keep that going the rest of the season. The show should have some references to Captain America, I think. That was a big part of Peggy's life, and we should see some of the aftermath of that event. As for other references, I am not sure what it can reference. I don't know much about 1940s-50s time period in Marvel's comic-book history. But I think there does need to be a fair amount of references to make sure this show is known to be connected to Marvel. It will be tricky to walk on that tight rope, but they should be able to get it done. Overall, there is the Marvel show I am most excited for. It might be because I don't really know what to expect. Or it might be because I loved Peggy Carter. This show could be a show that opens the door to Marvel branching out even more on cable TV. I really do want to see what this show brings to the table. Marvel is starting to branch out in the movies and if this show is successful, they might in TV. Agent Carter will premiere this winter, during the 'Agents of S.HIE.L.D.' hiatus. On a side note, if you liked this series, leave a comment. I am trying to bring newer and more original stuff to the site. Hope you've enjoyed our Comic Book TV Show Preview Week. 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' had a pretty rough first season. The first 14 to 16 episodes were completely useless. Once the Captain America happened, the show found its footing and actually became something decent. Hopefully they can build off the momentum they had following the first season and improve this show even more.
The story arch for the season really needs to focus on the rebuilding of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is what we expect will happen. With Coulson being the new head of S.H.I.E.L.D., we will surely get some more interesting stories this year. They should also focus on what to do with Ward. The team knows he is a traitor now. They need to explore the feelings of everyone on the team a little more. The most important stories to get involved with this season are answering the questions. Season 1 end with a lot more questions then answers. We need to know what is with the serum that Skye and Coulson have been injected with. We also need to know more about Skye's father and Raina's involvement with him. What happened to Fitz? How will Coulson rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D.? This season needs to hit the ground running and use every second to further the story and development. The characters needed a lot of work in the majority of season 1. Coulson wasn't Coulson for one. But as the season edged on, we got closer to the Coulson we all know and love. May emerged as a star from the very first episode. We need to learn more about her, because it seems like there is a lot to know. The mysteries surrounding her make her really interesting. They should explore the FitzSimmons relationship more. After Fitz basically admitted that he loves Simmons, we should see the effects of that, assuming he is alive. Ward went from the most boring character to the most interesting when we found out he was HYDRA. Ward needs to continue to be at odds with what he has to do. The struggle between right and wrong should weigh on him this season. Skye also went from annoying to interesting. After a lot of hate, they relegated her to the sidelines mostly in the second half of the season. But when she was involved, she wasn't as annoying. In fact, her race and her family are some of the most interesting developments in the first season. She needs to continue to dig and find out who/what she is. The characters had a lot of work done to make them more interesting and integral to the show as the series went on, and that needs to continue this season. This season, the show needs a really powerful villain. I felt that that was absent in the first season. I never felt like the Clairvoyant never felt like a threat. He was more or less just there. They need someone that really makes this team work and fight. The team needs to be pushed to their absolute farthest limits possible. I want to see people on the edge of a physical, mental, and emotional breakdown. Raise the stakes. Maybe kill off Fitz or Simmons. There needs to be consequences in this season. I think that is the one way season 2 could be miles better then season 1. Maybe use a really obscure Marvel villain for the season. Just get a really big and respectable villain for the season. The show doesn't really have an opportunity for a crossover this time around. The second Avengers movie comes out towards the end of the first season. Maybe Hill can show up again. Something to get this new look S.H.I.E.L.D. involved in the some side action or cleaning up for the Avengers. Somehow involve the new S.H.I.E.L.D. with the new Avengers movie. Cameos could be a bit more widespread this season. Nebula (Guardians of the Galaxy) is played by Karen Gillen, who is on another ABC show, so maybe she could show up. Michael Rooker has expressed interest in appearing on the show, so maybe involve Yondu in a few episodes. Zoe Saldana was recently on a TV special. Maybe Gamora could appear for an episode. And the most obvious choice is Chris Pratt. Pratt is no stranger to TV, and maybe Star-Lord could show up in the same episodes as Yondu. I don't think we will see any Avengers this season. Maybe Sam Jackson will show up for a few more episodes. Definitely a few opportunities for cameos this season. This season of Agents has the opportunity to do what the first couldn't, and that is hit the ground running. They have the mystery built up and the characters defined now. The one thing I really want to see them do is take the gloves off. I felt this show was too tame in the first season. Really let it embrace itself, but also give it some real consequences. They don't have any crossovers that can save them this season, so they really need to incorporate a solid story and goal to build to. The show definitely has tons of room to improve and it can do that this season, if it makes the right choices. I am curious to see what happens. 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' returns on Tuesday, September 23 @ 9/8c It's is a double feature today. We also have a brief look at 'Agent Carter'. |
