Spoilers Ahead:
This picture was me watching this episode. We get an epic finale for Troy. In an episode we all dreaded, there was a nice callback to the paintball episodes of seasons past. Except instead of paintball, we get hot lava (aka the floor is lava). In order to cope with Troy leaving, Abed starts a game of hot lava with a grand prize of $50,000 for the winner to ensure everyone participates. Britta sees this as a bad way to deal with leaving. Her mission is to get Abed to deal with it like a normal person. We see some great moments from Professor Duncan and Hickey. Duncan had a great interaction with Britta. Also great was Troy shouting "I'll just remember you as someone that complained and slowed us down a lot!" when they left her behind. Britta teamed up with Hickey at that point. We follow our survivors to Shirley Island, where we hear about the "Orb". The "Orb" turns out to be a giant hamster ball which we see Troy and Abed use to destroy competition. This leads them to the basement where we find out the lava that Abed sees is real. It is a metaphor for his fear of Troy leaving and his inability to let go. This was a fantastic scene acted by Danny Pudi and Donald Glover. It eventually leads to a scene only Community can pull off, though. Abed fake dies and the only way to bring him back is "clone" him. They did, at which point Abed accepts what is about to happen. Troy also "clones" himself. We then see the final goodbye. It was a very emotional scene with some humor tossed in. It had Troy ask Britta if he was better at sex than Jeff, Jeff admit in his own way that Troy is cooler, a nice exchange with Annie, and of course his goodbye with Abed. Another fantastic example of acting. I feel like this was the last scene of the episode they filmed. The look on Troy's face as he was hugging Abed and everyone looked so very genuine and true. I got choked up watching Troy and Abed say goodbye. There was a nice cameo at the end of the episode, though, to brighten the goodbye up a tad. The bright spot about Troy leaving is that they definitely left the door open for Donald Glover to come back if he wants too. The show won't be the same without Troy. It was a great send-off for one of the show's most beloved characters.
