Spoilers Ahead
The Basics:
Jake throws himself into his work for personal reasons. Amy lies about going on vacation to Captain Holt. Gina and Rosa tell Charles about a secret place.
The Analysis:
I wasn't a big fan of this episode. I usually like this show, because it has a lot of humor coupled with some character development. Both were pretty lacking tonight. There were some funny bits sprinkled throughout the episode, though. One bit was the Captain telling Jake how he sprained his wrist, which was due to a hula-hooping experience, because he knows no one will believe Jake. There was another one that sticks out, but I'll get to that in a minute. Jake's story didn't offer much, besides him throwing himself into his work because Santiago is going on vacation with her boyfriend. It is great to see more in this plot point, as I feel they ignore it one week and develop it the next, so whatever we can get I will take. Jake eventually solves the case, but isn't happy. Terry figures out Jake isn't happy with his record and his solving the case, because he was doing it to impress Santiago and she still is with Teddy. I love that they are acknowledging it, but it would hold more weight if Teddy was actually a character. Instead, he is just a piece of the story. As for Santiago, she lies to the Captain to try to get out of helping him, because she scheduled helping him on the same weekend as her vacation. The one funny bit of this is when Santiago was revealed to have seven cavities and the Captain said "I feel you deserve this." The only good part from Boyle's story is that Rosa stood up for him after he spilled the beans on the secret place to Scully and Hitchcock. There just wasn't much to the stories this week. It was probably the first truly weak episode of this season.
