'Arrow' had a pretty big presence at Comic-Con. Today was their panel. And they brought footage from season 3 with them. Based on what we know, this is probably a sizzle reel of the first 4-5 episodes, which means there is definitely a lot that happens in that time. Some of the cool stuff introduced is the fact that Ray Palmer will be competing with Oliver for control of Queen Consolidated. Could this also set him up as the possible villain we have heard rumored? Another is the brief nod to Star City (original name in the comics) and Felicity looking pretty beat up. Before you watch the trailers, be warned that the first minute is mainly footage from season 2, so if you haven't watched that yet, stay away. One last piece of info pertaining to 'Arrow' is that there will be an episode dedicated to Felicity's past. The episode will be titled 'Oracle', implying that Oracle will make an appearance and also potentially setting up for Batgirl in the future.

'Agent Carter' is Marvel's second foray into live-action TV. Following the continuing saga of Peggy Carter is definitely an interesting route to take. At Comic-Con today there was a lot of news. First is that Louis D'Esposito will direct episode 1, while Joe and Anthony Russo will direct episodes 2 and 3, and Joe Johnston wants to direct episode 4. Also interesting is that the show will introduce Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark's assistant and the basis for Tony's AI. Below is a video of the crew talking about the show. The firs trailer for season 5 of 'The Walking Dead' is here. I feel like this looks to be one of the best seasons of the show, but I will hold onto my judgement until I see the finished product. The show tends to show the best parts in the trailer. However, this season looks promising. It seems to have a fantastic villain, more creative zombie/zombie kills, and a better overall story. Based on this trailer, I don't think we will see Negan this season, but this could be a trailer for just the first half of the season. The on-the-road concept is a little over-used for this show, but it seems like they will be bouncing from place to place and keep the story moving. Overall, with the bigger production scale and just better feeling for this season, I think we will get a great season of 'The Walking Dead'. Roy's new suit looks pretty slick. This coming up season of 'Arrow' supposedly starts 7 months after the end of season 2. In that time Roy will have mostly recovered from his time with Mirakuru and trained enough to become a sidekick. Arsenal will appear in the first episode of season 3. What do you think of the new suit?
After a disappointing start to the series, AoS finally found its voice. And it turned out to be a pretty good TV show. Now heading into it's second season, the show has a lot of questions to answer. But for now we have to wait until Wednesday September 23rd for those questions to be answered. The show is definitely heading down an interesting route and it will be fun to see it explored. Also interesting is the move to Wednesdays. You would think it would be to avoid 'The Flash', but it runs into 'Arrow' in Wednesday. At the end of the day, I will end up watching both. What do you think of the move to Wednesdays?
MINOR SPOILERS The second episode of 'The Strain' wasn't nearly as good or entertaining as the first. It lacked a lot and some of the decisions made were questionable. Still, the show is finding it's voice still and while it is all over the place, it has the stuff to be the next great show. The episode was essentially a continuation of last weeks'. Eph and his partner were still trying to figure out what they were fighting. The mysterious and shady corporation wants the Master. Some more information is brought up in this episode, though. The corporation wants the Master, because the boss of the company is dying. He wants to live through the vampire infection. Not much more was discovered about the actual virus, besides its love for blood. Eph also had some more family issues this episode. There was also the introduction of Vasiliy Fet. He didn't really add to the story as much as just introduce himself to the world. And there was also the worsening condition of the survivors that was dealt with. All of this put together sounds pretty interesting, but it was kind of a snooze. The execution and actual plot dragged the story down. The episode was mainly hinting and now actual progression. The back and forth between Abraham and Eichorst implied a previous relationship, but didn't add to the story. The fact that Eph and Nora didn't really figure anything out this episode was also disappointing. All the figured out was the virus had a love for blood and that something happened at the Chief Medical Examiners' office. Eph's marital problems really dragged the episode down. The problem there was that I just didn't care. This is a show about vampires. When you try to add family drama to the mix, I get bored if it isn't executed properly. It wasn't here. It seemed thrown in just for expository purposes. It didn't add any dimensions to Eph, so it failed. The beating around the bush with the corporation was also quite boring. All you found out was that the boss was basically dying. The rest was hinted at. Vasiliy Fet's introduction and his one bit at the restaurant were the most entertaining parts of the episode. He seems like he will be a fun character to have around. The survivors worsening conditions were also explored. Gabriel Bolivar showed the most vampire-like symptoms. The pilot looks like he is dying and Joan Luss looked awful. The one part that was alright was the horror and suspense aspects. There wasn't much, but again it was pretty cool. When Bolivar bites into the woman's neck, the bit were he is focusing in right before was pretty cool. The little girl at the end was particularly creepy. We all knew she was going to kill her dad. I expected a bite to the neck, not a ginormous tongue to come out and bite. I should've, but I didn't which made the scene cooler. The horror aspects remain interesting. Overall, the second episode of 'The Strain' was a let-down after an amazing first episode. There was a lot of setting-up and not enough story or action to keep the episode entertaining. The show definitely has potential. We saw it just last week, and it flashed signs of it this week. My main fear is that the show gets stuck in a cycle of preparing, but no action. There is still work to be done, but this show could be one of the best on TV. Let's hope next week gets the show back on track.
Minor Spoilers Follow 'The Strain' is a show I have been following since it was announced. It sounded like a nice change on the vampire formula. Sure it wasn't completely original (based on a Guillermo del Toro book), but it was a Guillermo del Toro idea. That was enough to get some respect for me. And the marketing for it was creepy enough to get me even more interested, without giving anything away. So was it worth the wait? I watched the first 15 minutes of this show and thought this was going to be a stinker. The airplane opening was enough to set the stage without revealing anything, but the family meeting that followed really lost me. And then the little robbery scene also was a bust. But once Abraham Setrakian started talking to what I assume is an infected heart, the show got me. I was hooked. Everything following laid the ground work for a great show. This was a pilot episode, but gosh darn it, it was one of the better ones I have seen. It showed the feeling that the show could produce. It showed the interest and mystery that could keep you coming back. It was a solid episode. The story was the coming about of this disease. It bounced around a bit, but the core of the story was the same. They were working to study this disease and stop it. Not all characters got their due yet. Most of the focus was on Eph (Corey Stoll). He was an interesting character, family issues aside. The episode didn't reveal much about him as a character, besides the fact that he and his wife are separated, but they still care for one another, and that he has a close relationship with his son. There was still some mystery surrounding Eph. Why does he have a bad relationship with his boss? And what is the history with him and his partner, Nora? The other really interesting character was Abraham (played by David Bradley, Filch from the Harry Potter series). This is because as far as we know, he has had some experience with this disease. What he knows and what he can tell them has me curious. The other characters really were there for some exposition purposes, but I hope Sean Astin gets a little more exploration, too, because he has a story. The horror was great. It was spooky, different, and pretty old school. The monster was on-screen for a few seconds, while the minions also made a brief appearance. This had an old school feeling to it and it was pretty awesome. The horror wasn't much, but what was there really got me excited for the future of the show. Overall, this was a solid start to a show. One of the stronger pilots I have seen. There wasn't much character development, but that was because they heads were working on creating the atmosphere and story for this show. I had some expectations for this show, but not too high. My expectations were surpassed. I am genuinely excited for this show. It is the best new show in a while. Another feather in GDT's hat.
