We usually hear a rumor like this every couple of years, but new reports are surfacing saying that Sony is trying to work out a deal to include Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There are multiple reasons to believe it, too. First is the sub-par reception to 'The Amazing Spider-Man' reboot series. Reception has been lukewarm at best. Maybe Sony sees Marvel makes superior movies and would like their help. Involving themselves in the MCU would certainly open the door to many more stories. Second, Marvel owns the merchandising to Spider-Man, so this deal couldn't really hurt them. Third, there were reports that maybe the third Avengers movie won't feature the group we currently know, but they will save that group for an entirely different movie. I stayed away from reporting, because it seemed so outlandish. But it could be that Marvel is pushing to make Civil War into a movie. That could also be the cause behind bullying the new Fantastic Four movie (i.e. they are trying to regain the rights). Spider-Man plays a pretty crucial part in Civil War. If anything, this would be great for the franchises. It would most likely clean up Spider-Man's current reputation and bring both franchises more money. And it would be amazing for the fans, too. The original report is below. What do you think? Would you be for or against this move?
"While I can't get the confirmations I need to verify the story, I'm hearing that there are some very cool "Spider-Man" plans being discussed that would help Sony refocus their enormously important franchise while also opening up some connections in the onscreen Marvel movie universe that would blow fandom's minds. Will it work out? I don't know. I would love to be able to state for sure that it's happening. What seems clear from what I've heard is that Marvel wants to be able to play with all of their characters, and if they can make that work creatively and on a corporate level, they will, and that means the world gets bigger again."
