In perhaps the biggest Marvel news since the announcement of The Avengers, Marvel is going to make a movie based on the "Civil War" storyline from the comics. For those of you who don't know, Marvel Civil War is between two sides of a registration act that requires superheroes and vigilantes to register their secret identity. Tony Stark leads on side, while Captain America leads the other.
The series will start with Captain America 3, which means Tony Stark will also appear in it! This is huge news. Robert Downey Jr and Marvel have apparently negotiated a contract that gives him $40 million, along with some of the box-office cut. This is a big get, especially after RDJ was unsure of his future with Marvel. This move could grow his interest in the movies, and bring him back for more.
The rest of this report is info from BadAssDigest with my thoughts mixed in. BAD is reporting that the movie will either be called Civil War or Fallen Son. I wouldn't mind either. They also said that Cap won't appear in the third Avengers movie, because of the events of this movie. Apparently the events of this movie will set-up the 3rd and 4th Avengers movies and open the door for Thanos to attack Earth. Marvel is allegedly looking at this as an Avengers 2.5, and that it will be another ensemble movie. Their report also confirms the rumor of Cap gathering a new team at the end of The Avengers: Age of Ultron. "It could feature Cap's new team from the end of Age of Ultron. Last I heard (and they haven't shot this scene yet, so it could change) that team is Falcon, War Machine, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow, as well as probably The Vision (although I have been told Black Widow will not be much of a presence in Cap 3)." One of the most interesting bits is that apparently Marvel is eyeing the Russo Brothers to direct the next two Avengers movies, and they lobbied for the role in negotiations to direct this movie.
What all this means for the MCU, I don't know. What I do know is that Marvel isn't playing around with their movies. After a couple of duds, Marvel really hit strong this year with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. They are going full force with their movies, and that is nothing but good news for fans. This news could also lead credence to the rumors that Marvel is trying to work out a deal with Sony to feature Spider-Man in the MCU. What do you think of this news?
